I bought this to shade myself while eating lunch in a courtyard at work, and everyone sitting in the noon sun has taken notice. It definitely creates enough shade for one person. The most important thing about the umbrella is the clamp, which I'll describe...It has a plastic clamp that can grip both a tubular chair arm (the clamp has a groove for this) or a table (the clamp also has a flat surface). The clamp can only open a couple of inches, so there's a limit as to how thick the table can be. Similarly, the groove can probably only effectively accommodate a tubular chair arm of 1-1.5" diameter.Also, the clamp can be rotated to grip the side of a chair (i.e. the clamp can grip something that stands upright). I don't expect the clamp to be durable since it's plastic. Also, it's attached to the base of the umbrella by a ~4" plastic neck that allows the umbrella to flex a little in a light breeze.I expect this to break at some point.:)When clamped to a tubular metal arm chair, a strong breeze can blow the umbrella over, so be careful when sitting next to someone.
